Happy Friday friends!
Welcome back to my blog! I know you’ve seen some photos already of Sarah and Collin’s beautiful engagement session but I’ve been very eager to write this blog about it! You see, I’ve known Sarah for quite some time and I am super excited to give you a little glimpse into my past (pre-kiddos) life as well as tell you about their beautiful love story!
You see, I met Sarah during her senior year of high school when she was being recruited by The University at Albany to play Division I college basketball. At the time, I was working as the Assistant Athletic Director for Academic Support at the university – a job that I loved very much! I had the privilege of working with hundreds of student-athletes over the course of an almost 10 year period. I assisted with building class schedules, tutoring, career preparation, leadership programming and academic mentoring (just to name a few). Throughout this time, I would also meet with prospective student-athletes about the university and what it had to offer from an academic standpoint. I’m not even sure if Sarah remembers this but I recall meeting with her entire family (mom, dad and two sisters) on her recruiting visit. Luckily, Sarah committed to UAlbany where she would go on to have an incredible basketball career – winning FOUR (that’s right folks), FOUR America East Conference Championships and advancing to the NCAA Tournament each time. How many college basketball players can say they went to FOUR NCAA TOURNAMENTS?! Oh, and fun fact: she still holds the UAlbany Division I record for assists at 462.
Fast forward quite a few years — I’m doing this photographer/stay-at-home mom gig and she’s living and working within 30 minutes of me. Needless to say, I HAD to capture photos of she and her equally as athletic fiancé, Collin. Side note: he’s a former college baseball player himself. I’d say if these two have children, they’re pretty much guaranteed to receive an athletic scholarship!
I met Sarah and Collin at White Memorial Park in Litchfield, CT – a place I had never photographed at before. It was awesome (minus the mosquitos)! And honestly, Sarah and Collin would have beautiful photos regardless of their backdrop. They’re the couple that most photographers dream of working with. They’re ridiculously gorgeous and very comfortable in front of the camera! Collin is a runner and was very familiar with the park so he took us to a few places along the way that were great! It’s always nice when my clients are familiar with the shooting location. If you haven’t checked out the boardwalk at White Memorial, its a must!
Now a little bit about the happy couple…. Sarah and Collin met at the gym in the spring of 2015, but ultimately connected through family members. They had their very first date a short time later at the Goshen Stampede. On their three year anniversary, Collin took Sarah on a long hike to the pinnacle overlooking Lake Waramaug. When they reached the pinnacle, they shared some Panera Bread soup and Collin played a song for Sarah — and then he pulled the ring out of HER backpack (smooth one, Collin) and got down on one knee! They enjoyed the views and some moments of solitude. It melts my heart to see these two so blissfully in love! Their wedding is exactly ONE YEAR away and they will wed at Sarah’s family’s farm in Torrington. I’m already looking forward to seeing the photos of their big day!
It was so great to reconnect with Sarah and to meet Collin. They are a perfect match. Thank you both for letting me be a very small part of your love story!
XOXO
Jen
